SHOW 1 – Follies – Directed by Pat Nims, Music Director TBD
The time is 1971, and theatrical impresario Dimitri Weissmann hosts a reunion of

brilliant pastiche numbers, including "Losing My Mind," "I'm Still Here" and

unpleasant truths about their past and present, coming face-to-face with the
future. This show is considered to be one of Sondheim’s masterpieces.

SHOW 4 – Vanities: The Musical – Directed by Jaime Love, Music Director
Sherrill Peterson
Vanities: The Musical chronicles the life-affirming journey of three vivacious
Texas teens, from cheerleaders to sorority sisters to housewives to liberated
women and beyond. This musical captures a snapshot-sharp portrait of the lives,
loves, disappointments, and dreams of these young women growing up during
the turbulent ’60s and ’70s and reconnecting in the late ’80s.
Actors play ages ranging from high school age to their 30s:

Kathy: Female presenting (Soprano). The organized, perky, and often controlling
leader of the group, she attempts to plan her life, but faces a crisis of purpose in
adulthood. Generally requires a bright, lyrical voice with a strong mix/belt.

Joanne: Female presenting (Mezzo-Soprano). The conservative, naive, and
often self-absorbed friend who seeks the traditional life of a housewife, yet
struggles with her choices later in life. Needs a solid belt and versatile mix.

Mary: Female presenting (Alto). The rebellious, cynical, and artistic friend who
defies traditional expectations, embraces sexual liberation, and often acts as the
sarcastic counterpoint to the others. Requires a rich alto range, focusing on low-
to-mid range comfort with a secure belt.

SHOW 5 – These Shining Lives – Directed by Sandra Ish
These Shining Lives tells the true story of the “Radium Girls,” the hardworking
women of the Radium Dial Company in the 1920s and ’30s. These young women
painted watch dials with luminous, radium-based paints. Far from depressing,
this historical drama focuses instead on their resilience, friendship, and their
successful fight for dignity and recognition of the dangers they incurred.

Catherine Donohue: Female presenting. A young wife and mother of two. She
works at the Radium Dial factory. While she is quiet, sensitive and reflective at
times, she is by no means weak. She is full of life and passion for her work, her
friends, and her husband, Tom.

Charlotte: Female presenting. A worker at the factory. She is outspoken and
hard-boiled. She is competitive and has a biting sense of humor. Underneath this
front, however, she is just as kind-hearted as her friends.
Also plays:
Reporter 1: Speaks outside of the courthouse during Catherine’s lawsuit,
providing the opinion of the public.

Frances: Female presenting. A worker at the factory. She is the ‘moral
backbone’ of the group, but is more flexible than she lets on. She acts as a
mediator during the beginning of the show between Charlotte and Catherine.
Also plays:
Reporter 2: Speaks outside of the courthouse during Catherine’s lawsuit,
providing the opinion of the public.
An Official.

Pearl: Female presenting. A worker at the factory. Sweet and supportive, she is
the “joker” of the group. But Pearl is avoidant and has a hard time coming to
terms with her developing illness.
Also plays:
Daughter (Catherine’s young daughter): She is not childish, only innocent. She
establishes the disconnect that has developed in Catherine’s life.
Judge 2.

Tom Donohue: Male presenting. The husband of Catherine Donohue, a riveter
on the skyscrapers of Chicago. He loves Catherine and is extremely devoted to
her, but is somewhat unsettled when his wife starts making more money than he
does.
Also plays:
Dr. Rowntree: Male presenting. He extols the benefits of radium to cure
common illnesses. Dr. Dalitsch: Male presenting. An incredibly honest doctor.
The girls go to him and receive their separate, gruesome diagnoses. He
reappears in the trial scene to confirm their conditions before the jury.

Mr. Reed: Male presenting. The overseer of the factory. His heart is usually with
the girls, but when put under pressure, he is a pawn of the Radium Dial factory
and has to follow orders.

Also plays:
Radio Announcer: Much like Dr. Rowntree, the radio announcer makes a
performance out of selling radium to the public. Boasting of its benefits and
popularity, he sells the product along with a trio of radio station singers.

Company Doctor: Much like Mr. Reed, the Company doctor is a pawn of the
Radium Dial Company. He denies that the girls’ illnesses are related to their working
conditions and the radium they are exposed to.

Son (Catherine’s son): He is not childish, only innocent. Only appearing once
with his sister, he establishes the disconnect that has developed in Catherine’s life.

Leonard Grossman: Male presenting. A brash lawyer who has enough courage
to take the girls’ case. Disturbed by the company’s treatment of Catherine and
her friends.

Judge: Male presenting. Appears in the courtroom scene of Catherine’s trial
versus the Radium Dial factory.
